The Legend of Zelda-Wallmaster

Ask a young Hylian what there greatest fear is, and they are likely to reply: the Floormaster. Although the Floormaster was originally an imaginary being used by adults to frighten their children into behaving (lest the Floormaster appear and snatch them from their beds), the creature has since become a reality.

This disturbing turn of events came about when wicked spirits that feed off the fear of lesser creatures discovered the folktale of the Floormaster and took on their form. At first, the abduction of children was seen as a great mystery and attributed to many of the other monsters of Hyrule, but one night the truth was discovered: after telling the story of a Floormaster to their youngest child and sending them to sleep, a middle-aged Hylian woman came rushing to the child’s room after hearing a blood-curdling scream and discovered a Floormaster dragging the screaming child under her own bed, never to be seen again.

Over time the folklore surrounding the Floormaster was altered so that the creature simply dropped from the ceiling to capture its prey and devour it; as too many bereaved parents can attest, the malevolent spirits responsible for the Floormaster adapted accordingly and the Wallmaster was “born.”

As both the Floormaster and the Wallmaster are merely spirits personifying a terrible fear, they lack any true biology.

However, the spirits who chose to continue personifying Floormasters are generally so old and wicked that their hands can no longer completely conceal their true nature, while a Wallmaster simply resembles a demonic hand with a salivating mouth to consume its prey.

Similarly, Floormasters and Wallmasters lack any sort of organized society, and their ultimate purpose is simply to create enough fear to spawn more of their own demented kind. To assist in this task, Floormasters capture prey that wanders too near their place of concealment and drag them into a mysterious dark abyss in order to torture them to death; meanwhile, Wallmasters simply lurk near their area of manifestation and devour their victims alive.

Lastly, the magic utilized by the spirits of the Floormasters enables them only to appear in areas that have experienced tremendous amounts of negative emotion.
